I've checked its description and the software is capable of opening raster maps, but there is no troubleshooting for this procedure. I've looked on the official website for manuals or help and I've only found some page that explain its usage. The version released in April 2014 is installed in a system with Windows 8.1 and ILWIS is working. But, when an image is opened the software is shutting down. Can I get a clarification ?

You can download updates to the application from its official website. You need to apply those updates in order to eliminate the remaining bugs. It's possible that the image you are trying to open is corrupted. This usually causes errors.
